Rotary District 3830 Hosts Public Image Summit with Top Communication Leaders; Highlights Storytelling, Media’s Role in Service Impact

Rotary International District 3830 brought together more than 300 Rotarians, media and communication leaders, industry partners, and guests for its first-ever Public Image Summit, held at Dusit Thani Makati. With the theme “Captain Your Story,” the event highlighted the importance of purposeful storytelling in building public trust, strengthening visibility, and advancing Rotary’s mission of service.

The Rotary Year 2026-2027 Public Image Summit served as a flagship learning platform designed to help Rotarians take greater control of their organization’s story. The whole-day conference focused on reputation, visibility, influence, and legacy in today’s fast-changing and multi-platform media environment. Participants also brought the nautical theme to life through their creative outfits.

Unlike the usual public image seminars conducted during the Rotary year, the summit expanded the program into a full-day conference featuring sessions from Rotary leaders and industry experts. The program covered storytelling, communication, content creation, writing, branding, and the effective use of different media platforms.

District 3830 Governor Jasmin “Jaz” Limon opened the event with an inspirational message encouraging Rotarians to lead their own narratives with authenticity, credibility, and purpose. She emphasized that strong storytelling can help Rotary continue its mission of service while creating greater momentum for the next generation of Rotarians.

Throughout the summit, speakers highlighted the importance of consistent and authentic communication. Workshops provided participants with practical tools for creating content, improving written communication, and strengthening their clubs’ brands. A multi-sector panel discussion also examined how purposeful storytelling can help organizations create meaningful and measurable impact.

Among the distinguished speakers and panelists were GMA News producer and anchor Mariz Umali; GGC Group Asia Chairman and CEO and Rotary Club of Makati West Past President Gil G. Chua; DITO Philippines President and COO Donald Lim; ABS-CBN Creative Communication Management Head Robert Labayen; former Presidential Communications Secretary and Past District Governor Sonny Coloma; Philstar Media Group Executive Vice President Lucien Dy Tioco; Manila Broadcasting Company Vice President for Integrated Media Vince Jaen; and Ripple8 Managing Director Bobby Vito.

The afternoon workshops featured Unbox Media Group Chairman and CEO Carlo Ople, veteran multi-platform journalist Inday Espina-Varona, and District 3830 Public Image Committee Chairperson and Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo Past President Charlotte S. Cruz. Ripple8 Managing Partner Michelle Ople served as emcee alongside Summit Chair Gregory James “GJ” Dy.

Cruz emphasized that the summit aimed to help Rotarians become better storytellers by giving them practical ways to communicate the impact of their community projects. She noted that while Rotary carries out meaningful work, effectively sharing these stories can help connect the organization with more people and gain stronger support.

Meanwhile, Chua highlighted the role of storytelling in shaping public perception and strengthening trust. He explained that every Rotary project carries a story of service and hope, and communicating these stories consistently can help inspire action and expand Rotary’s reach.

Chua also introduced “Tayo Mismo,” a new platform designed to provide a space where good news and positive stories, including those from Rotarians, can be shared with a wider audience.

With more than 300 participants and strong support from the private and public sectors, the Rotary District 3830 Public Image Summit marked an important step in strengthening communication and collaboration across the district. The event reinforced the idea that community impact should not only be delivered but also communicated effectively.

The summit was supported by financial sponsors Megaworld, Pag-IBIG Fund, PCSO, and PLDT, with trade sponsors GGC Group Asia, Ripple8, Bent and Buzz, Globaltronics, Unbox, and Zen Institute.

Media partners ABS-CBN, GMA, Manila Bulletin, TV5, MBC Media Group, RMN Network, 105.9 True FM, Monster RX 93.1, Tiger 22, and Tayo Mismo also supported the summit, reflecting a shared commitment to meaningful storytelling and community impact.

Summit Chairperson Gregory James “GJ” Dy said the event delivered a clear message as Rotary District 3830 continues to expand its service efforts: impact must not only be delivered, but also told. The summit ultimately aimed to equip Rotarians with the skills and confidence to become true captains of their own narratives and inspire more people to participate in creating lasting community impact.

Rotary International District 3830 is one of the leading Rotary districts in the Philippines, with more than 100 Rotary clubs and over 3,200 members across Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, and Palawan.
