GCash Strengthens Security With New Self-Service Tools for Account and Money Protection

GCash is giving users greater control over their account security with the launch of its new Security Center, an in-app hub designed to make essential protection tools easier to access. The new feature brings together Lock My Account, Money Lock, and Subscription Center, allowing users to respond quickly to suspicious activity, protect their funds, and manage connected merchants and apps in one place.

The rollout strengthens GCash’s efforts to protect users against scams, unauthorized transactions, and other evolving cybersecurity threats while supporting the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA).

GCash Security Center Gives Users More Control

The GCash Security Center provides users with centralized access to important security features and account protection settings.

One of its key tools is Lock My Account, which works as an emergency account freeze. Through GCash’s AI-powered digital assistant, Gigi, users can immediately suspend their account when they notice unusual activity or suspect a scam.

Once activated, the feature blocks outgoing transactions, logs users out of active sessions, and prevents changes to account information. The protection works at the account level, giving users an added layer of security even when a device may have been lost, stolen, or compromised.

Users can activate the account lock through the GCash app’s Security Center or from outside the app. To restore access, users must submit a request through Gigi and complete enhanced authentication, including Double Safe multi-factor authentication and additional verification.

Subscription Center Helps Manage Connected Merchants

The new Subscription Center gives GCash users a clearer view of merchants and apps connected to their accounts. This feature is particularly useful for managing subscriptions and recurring payments.

Users can remove a connected merchant or app in just two steps. They simply open Subscription Center, select the merchant or app they want to remove, and tap “Unlink.” The connection is then removed, helping prevent future payments through GCash.

For unexpected charges, users can unlink the merchant to help stop future transactions. However, refunds or reversals for payments that have already been processed must still be requested directly from the merchant. GCash may provide transaction records and other documentation to support the request.

Money Lock Adds Protection for GCash Savings

Another major feature is Money Lock, which allows users to secure a portion of their funds through GSave, GCash’s savings feature offered through BSP-supervised partner banks.

With Money Lock activated, selected funds are set aside for safekeeping and cannot be used for regular GCash transactions until they are unlocked. The remaining wallet balance stays available for everyday payments and transactions.

This feature provides an additional layer of protection for users who want to separate their savings from money intended for daily spending.

GCash Continues to Strengthen Digital Security

Aside from the new features, the GCash Security Center also brings existing security tools together, including device management, authentication settings, and in-app security education resources.

The launch follows other security initiatives from GCash, including the use of in-app OTPs to help combat phishing, measures against quishing and fake websites, and the blocking of more than 3,200 merchants linked to illegal gambling.

Miguel Geronilla, GCash chief information security officer, said the Security Center forms part of the company’s broader commitment to giving users clearer visibility and control over their accounts and funds.

The security features were deployed beginning June 2026 as part of GCash’s continuing efforts to strengthen user protection. Users are encouraged to regularly review their connected accounts, update their security settings, and use the available tools to help protect their funds and transactions.
