As consumer behavior increasingly shifts toward experience-driven spending and AI reshapes product discovery, retailers are being urged to rethink both what they sell and how they sell it. Trends such as “treatonomics,” values-led shopping among Generation Z, and AI-driven recommendations are transforming the retail landscape, pushing businesses to differentiate and modernize operations. In a free business seminar hosted by Araneta City on February 20 at Gateway Mall 2, entrepreneur Amrei Dizon emphasized that undifferentiated retail concepts risk fading in a competitive market.
She highlighted that meaningful customer experiences, intentional store design, and staff trained to communicate brand values are now critical for success. Retailers are also encouraged to incorporate accessible indulgences to cater to treatonomics and align with Gen Z’s preference for authenticity and social responsibility. Furthermore, the rise of generative AI platforms like ChatGPT is changing online discovery and shopping behavior, making AI optimization essential for visibility and operational efficiency. By leveraging AI for inventory management and personalized recommendations, businesses can reduce missed sales opportunities and better meet customer expectations.
Supported by the J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Araneta City’s learning sessions equip tenants with actionable insights to navigate a rapidly evolving, digitally-driven retail environment.
